Introduction to Watercolor Quilting

Watercolor quilts are so named due to the subtle blending of values in selected fabrics in such a way as to resemble the dark-to-light shifts in a traditional watercolor painting. Michael Templeton will introduce you to this technique which involves taking a wide array of multicolored fabrics and separating them by value categories, cutting them into 2.5” squares, and arranging them in a pleasing manner on a fusible grid. Fabric selection, value interpretation, managing “difficult” prints, designing, sewing and specific pressing will be covered in this class. A great stash buster if you have lots of florals you want to use!

Materials needed:

  • 10-12 fat quarters of (preferably) floral fabrics in multiple values from light to dark (bundles of suitable fabrics will be available for purchase at the shop & online

  • Fusible interfacing with 2.5" grid: available at shop
